2027 IOTA TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION
IOTA seeks to make participation in its conferences accessible to scholars in different financial circumstances. IOTA will thus award competitive travel grants for our conference in Georgia, 17-21 January 2027. An IOTA travel grant provides a four-night hotel stay, waived conference registration, and, in some cases, an additional stipend for travel. Each grant will be awarded based on a combination of merit and need, following the recommendations of a panel appointed by the IOTA Board.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for the grant, each applicant must:
- Be a current IOTA member. If you are not a member, join here.
- Have a paper accepted for an IOTA session (open or invited).
- Those who are serving only as session chairs or offering only a Short Communications are not eligible. Those who have been accepted into the Georgian Winter Institute are not eligible.
- Have received a master’s level degree and/or are currently studying towards a doctoral degree.
Priority
Priority will be given to those scholars from areas affected by war, emerging scholars, scholars-in-need, underrepresented scholars, female scholars, and those without institutional support.
Notes
While applicants must be IOTA members, we recommend not registering for the conference until after grant notification because registration is covered by this grant and IOTA cannot refund registration fees.
No papers may be presented in absentia.
Grant Terms
The Travel Grant provides a four-night hotel stay for the duration of IOTA’s 2027 Conference in Poti and Kobuleti, Republic of Georgia, arriving on January the 17th and departing on January 21st. If a grant recipient stays for fewer than four nights, the remaining award amount carries no cash value and cannot be applied to other travel expenses, such as air travel. Grant recipients who wish to stay in Georgia longer will be financially responsible for the extra nights and will need to make their own arrangements with the hotel management. In addition, the grant provides free conference registration. In some cases, an additional stipend for transportation costs will be offered.
All applicants will be notified before August 30, 2026.
Application Process
Submit a completed application as well as a CV (resume) in one document to IOTA Program Coordinator Ms. Erika Zabinksi at [email protected] before September 10, 2026.
